Moving to Texas from another state and obtaining a Texas Driver License involves a series of steps. Here's an overview of the process:

1.Residency Requirements

Before you can apply for a Texas driver's license, you must have established residency in Texas.

2. Gather Necessary Documentation

You will need to provide various documents to verify your identity, Social Security Number (SSN), U.S. citizenship, or lawful presence status, and Texas residency. Commonly accepted documents include:

   - Proof of Identity: U.S. passport, birth certificate, or another document proving identity and age.

   - Proof of Social Security Number: Social Security Card, W-2, or SSA-1099 form.

   - Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Presence: U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, or green card.

   - Proof of Texas Residency: Utility bills, lease agreement, mortgage statement, Texas voter registration card, etc.

   - Proof of Texas Vehicle Registration and Insurance (if you own a vehicle).

3. Complete the Application

You'll need to complete the application for a Texas driver's license. This can often be done online or you can fill it out at the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office.

4. Schedule an Appointment

Texas DPS handles driver's licenses, and you should schedule an appointment at a local DPS office. Appointments can usually be scheduled online through the Texas DPS website.

5. Pass Vision Exam

You will need to complete an application for Texas title (Form 130-U). It requires basic information about you and your vehicle.

6. Surrender Your Out-of-State License

You must surrender your current out-of-state driver's license to the DPS.

7. Pay the Fee

The fee for a Texas driver's license varies depending on the age and type of license. As of my last update, the typical fee for a standard driver's license for adults was around $25-$33, but this can change, so it's advisable to check the latest fee schedule on the Texas DPS website.

8.Receive a Temporary License

After completing all the steps, you will receive a temporary driver's license. Your permanent license will be mailed to you.

Remember, these steps may vary slightly based on individual circumstances, and it's always a good idea to check the most current information on the Texas DPS website or contact them directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
